SkateCity Halloween Contest!

Hardflips for Halloween

BY ZACH NESMITH

AUGUSTA, GA - For kids that grew up playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater, reading “Thrasher” and drawing flip books of impossible skateboard tricks they’d love to see, frightening applies to a lot more than monster masks and haunted houses.

To really scare a skater, put them in front of 16-stair handrails, loose bolts and maybe the pressure of a contest.

Skate City of Augusta is holding a skate contest along with their first costume contest this Halloween. There will be three ranks for skaters to enter: beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Everyone is welcome to enter for a small entry fee and it’s free to just come out and watch.

There will be prizes awarded to first, second and third places.

The prizes range from things like T-shirts and free passes to decks and wheels, along with a certificate awarded to the winners.

Skateboarding company CCS will be sponsoring the event, so expect a lot of good stuff to buy, whether it’s a deck to replace the damage of that unfortunate landing or bearings to reach that speed fast enough to clear the gap.

If your board is riding fine or you just come to watch, there will be food available, too. Hot dogs, burgers, pizza and drinks will be there if you get an appetite so you won’t miss the next trick or the product toss.

There will also be live music to accompany the event and keep the tricks flowing. You might even spot some local skate legends like Jeff Hall or Bill Pardee.

Sign up begins at 1 p.m. and the first round will start at 2 p.m. Don’t worry if you come late; you can still enter at any time during the event.

So if you skate, have friends that skate or even kids that skate, this event will help support the local skate scene on Halloween.

Good Times!

Yeah, you can catch Caleb at the skate park eating crab legs on top of the extension. That's gangsta! Reminds me of when byrd and were eating filet mignon at SPOC. What a life we live ;)
